Privacy Policy

This notice explains how Hook & Hug handles information when you visit hookhug.com or contact our editorial team. For privacy questions or requests, email support@hookhug.com.

Information you give us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any information you choose to include. We use it to answer you and manage your request. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or sensitive personal information.

Where comments are open, WordPress collects the details entered in the comment form, your IP address and browser information to support moderation and reduce spam. Your approved comment and chosen display name may be public. An anonymised string derived from your email may be sent to Gravatar to check for a profile image. See Automattic’s privacy notice. Comment cookies are optional when the form offers to remember your details.

Hosting and essential services

Our website runs on WordPress and is hosted by Hostinger. Hosting, security and delivery systems process technical information such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser information and error logs to serve and protect the website. Administrator login cookies are used for secure administration. See Hostinger’s privacy policy.

Your cookie choices

Optional Google Analytics and Grow scripts are blocked until you choose to allow their category. You can accept, reject or choose categories in the banner. Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to change your choice. We store this preference in your browser’s local storage under hh_privacy_v1 for up to 180 days. Clearing browser storage removes it. Where your browser sends a supported Global Privacy Control signal, our integration does not load these optional scripts.

Withdrawing permission stops future loading and may reload the page. Our integration removes the Google Analytics cookies it can access. Your browser settings can also remove stored cookies; we cannot directly remove cookies belonging to another domain.

Google Analytics 4

If you allow Analytics, Google receives information about page visits, approximate location, browser and device information and interactions such as scrolling, downloads and outbound links. We use it to understand which content helps readers. Analytics cookies, including _ga and related _ga_ cookies, distinguish visits and sessions and may last up to two years, subject to browser limits and settings.

We disable Google signals and advertising personalisation in our website integration. We do not deliberately send names, email addresses or message contents to Analytics. Our integration removes query strings from the page address it supplies to Analytics. Automatic form-interaction and site-search collection are disabled. Etsy clicks measure a visit to a link; they do not confirm a sale.

Read how Google uses information from partner websites and Google’s privacy policy. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Grow by Mediavine

If you allow Audience features, we load Grow by Mediavine. Grow can provide saved-content, recommendation and audience features and measure interactions with the site. Mediavine may process technical information, cookie or device identifiers, page views and activity. If you choose to create a Grow account or subscribe through a Grow feature, the information you provide is also handled under Mediavine’s terms and privacy notice. These features may use cookies and browser storage.

See Mediavine’s privacy and legal information for its data practices and choices. We are preparing this site for possible future advertising. No Journey or AdSense display advertisements are enabled by this setup; this notice and consent settings will be reviewed before ads are introduced.

External shops and social platforms

Our Etsy shop and social-media pages operate on separate platforms. Clicking a link takes you to that provider, whose privacy terms apply there. Payments and order information for Etsy purchases are handled through Etsy; we do not collect payment-card information on this blog.

Use, retention and international processing

We use information to operate and secure the site, respond to requests, moderate comments and, with permission, understand visits and offer audience features. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle the request and any related obligations. Approved comments may remain with the discussion unless removed. Provider retention periods depend on their services, settings and legal obligations. Providers may process information outside your country; their notices describe applicable safeguards.

Your requests

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, object to certain uses, restrict processing or withdraw consent. Email us to make a request. We may need information to verify the request and locate the relevant records. Some records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons. You can also contact your relevant data-protection authority.

This journal is intended for adult makers. Articles about baby and children’s garments are written for adults; we do not knowingly seek personal information from children. We update this notice when our services or practices change.
